TDWCC’s last meeting

Hello,

TDWCC held its last meeting on Mon. Jan. 28. It was great to see familiar faces and some new ones. Thank you, everyone, for everything you did to get Democrats elected in 2012. While we still struggle with wins locally, isn’t it fantastic that President Obama is still in the White House, 20 women are now in the Senate, and we had other great wins like Sen. Wendy Davis getting re-elected!

If you’re like me, you celebrated last week’s inauguration but have taken a well-deserved break from political activity.  Before you know it, the next election is coming up so let’s don’t lose momentum.

I think the theme of change and hope is still alive… I’d like to announce a very big change regarding TDWCC. After great deliberation over the last several months – in fact, over the last year – and after researching many options, the TDWCC Board has voted to end TDWCC and create a new organization. We believe that more can be accomplished at this time through a wholly new organization.

So we elected to disaffiliate with the statewide Texas Democratic Women. We felt that we were limited in the potential scope of our organization by our affiliation with TDW (by having to use their mission and bylaws, etc.) and we see lots of opportunities and possibilities as a new group.

Per TDW bylaws, we can no longer use “TDW” in our name. We will deactivate the PAC by that name. We have informed the current TDW president and president-elect of this decision. Anyone can still belong to TDW as a member-at-large.

What’s next??  Our news last night was met with great enthusiasm! Look for an email from Amy Lawrence who will preside over the new organization and tell you all about upcoming events.

On a personal note, I want to thank everyone who supported me in my time as president of TDWCC. These years have been wonderful – getting to meet and work with so many Democratic activists, belonging to a group with a solid reputation that made a difference in Collin County politics, and learning so much from each of you.  I am not going anywhere, just stepping down, and know that we will be more awesome in our new transformation!

Sincerely,

Barb Walters, Former TDWCC President
