Dear Texans,
Last night we sent a condolence message to all regarding the horrible tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut. A formatting error left a donate button on the message, and for that we could not be more sorry.
This is a time to mourn and to gather together. We understand that. And we deeply regret any offense we caused with this error.
But we also had another thought. We all know that the victim’s families and the children who endured this awful experience are going to need help and support. Much of this support will require funding. So we want to help and we’re asking you and all the local Democratic parties and clubs throughout the state to join us.
All funds raised through this effort will target to the listed Newtown victim’s assistance groups below. And we will keep you posted on the donation and our collective effort.
Newtown Youth and Family Services
Newtown Youth & Family Services, Inc., a nonprofit mental health clinic, will be open Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for emergency counseling for families, community members or staff involved in the Sandy Hook Elementary school tragedy. All donations made to the organization will benefit those affected.
Newtown Parent Connection
The Newtown Parent Connection, a nonprofit that addresses issues of substance abuse, also offers bereavement group counseling on the first Wednesday of every month. The organization told The Huffington Post that it’s going to try to bring in additional counselors to accommodate the needs of those affected by the Sandy Hook shooting.
So today the CONTRIBUTE button is not a mistake. Please accept our apology and please give what you can.
Thank you for all you do.
Sincerely,
Gilberto Hinojosa
